The clearance calculations were correct, just not assigned to the correct engine location. ----- May 28, 2026, Version 1.1 D.014 --------------------------- Fixed bug where sometimes the table for entering multiple readings for valve lifter related inputs (lifter OD, lifter bore ID, sleeve ID or OD) could be corrupted. For most engine builds it asks for 1 intake and 1 exhaust for each cylinder. Now if you specify an OHC engine with dual cams, the software assumes you have a 4 valve motor and asks for 2 intake and 2 exhaust for each cylinder. ----- May 3, 2026, Version 1.1 D.013 --------------------------- Fixed bug where Printouts with Multiple Inputs could be corrupted if you set the Preference to have reports print in Excel .csv format. Printer reports sections with Multiple Inputs are now print in a fixed space font, so columns of numbers line up better. Printer reports sections with Multiple Inputs are now print the first line in Bold to better separate inputs. Printer reports top line and footers now include the log book file name. Printer reports footers are now printed on all pages. Now if you select to print reports Only with data entries, the drop down list boxes where nothing has been set are also not printed. Fixed bug where the "Bore Size" for the piston could be printed 2 times, being confused with "Main Bore Size" for the crankshaft journals. The program should now be better and doing a new page and drawing a frame around pages when printing Multiple Inputs. ----- Apr 24, 2026, Version 1.1 D.012 --------------------------- Changed check box background color for the introductory message so it shows up on Win 11 computers, and not blacked out. Fixed bug where the piston-to-bore clearance was not reported correctly if you had selected to do just simple inputs for the piston skirt measurements (did not include taper or ovality). ----- Sept 24, 2025, Version 1.1 D.011 --------------------------- Fixed bug where the program got confused about calculating clearance for the Piston-Bore clearances with Main Bearing Clearances. The error was with the Main Bearing Clearances. ----- June 22, 2025, Version 1.1 D.010 --------------------------- Now the message "You should set the 'Number Cylinders' and 'Layout' to properly use the program's features." is not shown if you are in Edit mode. Added many features to let the Log Book "talk" to other Performance Trends' programs like Port Flow Analyzer, Cam Analyzer, Valve Spring Tester, and Dyno DataMite. When editting inputs, the program created a TempUserhelpX.txt file for recording changes, but it did not mark this file it was a v1.1B file or later. Then when changes were saved, this file was not marking the permanent files correctly. This bug corrupted the input names after editting the program's inputs. Program now puts a check mark by the current option of Using All inputs or Using Simple Inputs under the Edit menu. Program now blanks out the marker for hidden fields "~~~" if you go back to using all inputs. Program should now be better at preventing repetitive instructions when editting. It was meant to appear if you clicked on an input field, but it appeared too often when changing screens. Fixed bug where Inline engines were not laid out correctly for entering multiple data entries. Fixed bug where if a value was not entered for calculating a clearance, the clearance shown in the table was carried over from a previous valid clearance calculation. You can now turn OFF the introductory "safety screen" when the program starts. Added many features for storing much more Piston Skirt data and making graphs of piston skirt data, and calculating clearances for piston skirt data. ----- Dec 18, 2024, Version 1.1 D.002 --------------------------- Now the program will display "na" for any field meant to display a calculate clearance if any of the required measurements have not been entered. Problem was these new inputs were shown on more than just the 'Complete Short Block' screen. ----- July 27, 2023, Version 1.1 C.009 --------------------------- Fixed bug where the Log Book was not always reading the correct data from a TraceBoss file. ----- July 20, 2023, Version 1.1 C.007 --------------------------- Added new Preference setting called "Show 'Lift at TDC' to Adjust Piston to Valve Clearance Calculation". If you turn this On, the inputs of "Cam Bolts #" and "Cam Ecentric #" are changed to "Int Lift at TDC" and "Exh Lift at TDC". Now when you enter numbers for these inputs, the cam lift profile is adjusted based on these inputs to calculate Piston-to-Valve clearances. The inputs of "Cam Bolts #" and "Cam Ecentric #" are now treated as inputs which are involved in calculations and they can not be renamed or removed. That is because if switch to "Int Lift at TDC" and "Exh Lift at TDC", these inputs ARE used for calculations. Added several features to allow for a larger Trace Boss file of Surface Finish data, and when this file gets too big, the software lets you save this file to a new name as a backup copy, and then start a new Trace Boss file. For Plus Version, you can change the "Rods/Throw" and "Reciprocating Factor" for calculating Bob Weight for balancing. Previously, if you saved a file where the Preference was set so you could enter the Bob Wt directly, and then opened this file when the Preference was set to Calculate the Bob Wt from other inputs, the Bob Wt you had entered would have been lost and overwritten by the new calculated value. Now if the program sees this, it asks you if it should change the Preference Setting so you can keep the Bob Wt you entered directly. In Standard Version, the Bob Wt calculation now depends on the Engine Layout in the Customer/Basic Info screen. If it is an Inline engine it assumes there is only 1 rod per crank throw. Otherwise it assumes there are 2 rods per throw. ----- Sept 9, 2016, Version 1.1 A.046 ----------------------- Increased limit for number of cylinders from 16 to 18. ----- July 15, 2016, Version 1.1 A.045 ----------------------- Fixed a bug where the multiple entries of bore diameter or bore thickness were not always being saved unless you clicked on a different tab exiting the screen. Also, if you 'Make Visible' the 'Exh' portion the Int portion is also made visible. Program now allows for multiple inputs for Main Brg Clearance and Rod Brg Clearance. The program now will highlight inputs which have actually had multiple inputs entered in light blue. It always highlighted inputs which where out of limits the user had specified in Preferences in Yellow. If both the inputs are out of limits and have had multiple inputs, the input is highlighted in light green (combo of blue + yellow). The program now does not let you change the name of certain inputs, which have names used by the program to check for various operations. Fixed minor bug where program would erroneously show an error message when saving a file. ----- Jan 15, 2009, Version 1.1 A.030 ----------------------- Program now calculates the valve spring bind height clearance. Fixed a bug where the program would find even Spec Names for entries you had selected to be hidden. A new Find edit option has been added of 'Find Spec Name (all including hidden) Fixed bug where a field from other screens could be "left over" on the Customer Info screen. New Huge Feature: You can now Rename some specs, change their help description, change the length of the field for data entry, and any checking limits. You must first turn ON this input in Preferences under 'File Options/Operation' tab and set 'Allow Editting Names, Field Length' to Yes. Now when you click on Edit at upper left of main screen, and select 'Modify Program Layout', you can now choose "Enter Edit Mode (Hide, Restore, Change Inputs)" (change being new). Now when you click on a Spec during Editting the program layout, you have the option of 'Change Field' which brings up a new screen. There you can change many things about some inputs. Note: Inputs used in calculations can not be changed. Also 'Int' inputs must remain 'Int' inputs and inputs just called 'Exh' can not be changed. This new Preference lets you turn ON these new 'User Specified' inputs or turn then Off. A button has been added by this Preference which lets you return all user specified changes back to the original defaults. ----- Jan 10, 2009, Version 1.1 A.029 ----------------------- Program now warns you if you change a program Option which reduces the number of input screens, that the data on the screens which have now be eliminated will be ERASED. The Help button on the Preference screen now shows help info. A new Preference has been added which lets you change the way the Spring Ht calculation is performed (either with or without lash) or eliminate the check completely. The program now lets you tell the program to 'Fix' a Spring Ht mis-match between Tappet Lift x Rocker Arm Ratio - Lash compared to Open Ht - Seated Ht. Click on Edit to see this option (only shown if there is a mis-match). Depending on what you Hid, the program would not produce a "height break" on the Machined Block/Short Block screen between items at the top (for short block without the rotating assembly) and items at the bottom (with the rotating assembly installed). When hiding certain fields, the green color chosen to indicate a hid item was so light it was hard to see. This green is now a shade darker. Added a 'Use Simpler (fewer) Inputs' button to the demo which eliminates about half of the input fields. Added a 'Use Simpler (fewer) Inputs' and 'Restore All Inputs' command under the Edit option of Modify Program Layout option. ----- April 30, 2008, Version 1.1 A.028 ----------------------- Added feature which warns a user that someone else is currently running the program, to avoid conflicts of 2 users modifying the same file. ----- June 29, 2007, Version 1.1 A.027 ----------------------- Put limits on acceptable position and size of program screen. If these dimensions got VERY unusual, the program would not start up correctly. Added a new Delete menu option under the File menu. ----- Jan 13, 2007, Version 1.1 A.020 ----------------------- Fixed bug where program would bomb in all Engine Files did not have a '~' in their name, as they all should if written by the program. Very rare occurance Fixed bug where certain errors in rod/stroke ratio and deck height "stack up" calculations would be displayed, when there really was no error. This happened only occasionally, when switching to the Rotating Assembly screen immediately after opening a file. Fixed bug where individual entries for, say, skirt diameter for each cylinder were not printed out correctly assigned to the correct cylinder number. Fixed bug where the clearance for individual entries, like piston skirt to bore, were not correctly calculating clearance for skirt #5 with bore #5. Fixed bug where when individual entires for, say, skirt diameter were printed out, an extra blank row of 'Skirt Diameter' would be printed when it was not needed. ----- Dec 29, 2006, Version 1.1 A.019 ----------------------- Added several changes to produce better printouts: - Check to not overwrite long data inputs - For blank data, the printout now shows a blank line (before is showed nothing) - The top of the printout now matches up better with the top of the graphic logo. ----- July 7, 2006, Version 1.1 A.018 ----------------------- Fixed some bugs for the "auto backup" feature. The time for auto backing up is now controlled in the Preferences menu. ----- July 6, 2006, Version 1.1 A.017 ----------------------- Added CR Calculator menu command so Comp Ratio inputs can be calculated in CR Calc program. Added Backup and Restore commands. Added Main and Rod Bearing Velocity calculations to Engine Math. Fixed bug where comments were not blanked out when starting a new file. Added new Preference for allowing inputs in either English or Metric Units. ----- April 27, 2006, Version 1.1 A.015 ----------------------- Program now saves inputs before it goes to Preferences screen. Program now only prints pages which you have requested. Previously the program would try to print "Engine Math" even if there was no Engine Math tab shown. Program now remembers the Printer Orientation, landscape or portrait. In Edit Mode, when trying to hide certain inputs, the program now checks to see if those inputs are used for calculations and does not let you hide them. Made inputs concerning the Bob Weight calculation critical for calculations and you are not allowed to hide them. Fixed a bug where the program was not always using Piston Top Volume and Gasket Diameter and Thickness correctly for calculating Compression Ratio. ----- Jan 16, 2006, Version 1.1 A.014 ----------------------- Program now saves screen size and position when shutting down, and restores it when restarting. Added a more extensive Preferences screen to allow for future expansion. Added Preference to choose to have the Total Bobweight a possible entry from user, or calculated from all other weight inputs. Added Preference for choosing which letter drive for default CD/Floppy drive. Added menu commands of Open from Floppy/CD or Save to Floppy/CD under file menu option on main screen. Added check for valid Rod/Stroke ratios. Fixed bug where program could bomb if a combination of engine specs was not correct, especially concerning rod/stroke ratio. Added option in Open screen to just select to open various builds, like Complete Engine, Head(s) Only, etc. Added option in Open screen that if you have selected to just open Head(s) Only, you can click on an 'Open (insert)' button to have these Head Specs inserted into the current file you are working with. ----- Dec 30, 2005, Version 1.1 A.013 ----------------------- Now periodically save inputs in backup file. If you start up the program from an unintentional shut down (like power failure or program "bombed"), program will put you back close to where you were when the program quit. Fixed bug where hidden specs were still printed on printouts. Fixed bug where during editting (choosing which specs to hide), the program did not save the changes when you switch to different tabs. Fixed couple of additional minor bugs for Editting. Fixed bug where Valve Stem Clearance was only being saved to 3 decimal places. ----- Nov 15, 2005, Version 1.1 A.012 ----------------------- Fixed bug so that if 2 adjacent inputs were out of limits, the program would not get in endless loop warning of both being limits. Program now does multiple inputs of several more inputs, including Bore Size. Program does graph and report of variations in Bore Size. Muliple inputs are now displayed as "xxx-xxx" so you can see both the min and max entered. Clearances are now calculated based on multiple inputs. Individual clearances based on multiple inputs can be displayed by clicking on the clearance name. ----- June 22, 2005, Version 1.1 A.011 ----------------------- Eliminated Long Block Option After inputing Reg Name, now Call SaveConfig(0) instead of just saving the Reg Name and Code. This ensures that the rest of the config file is saved also. Program now keeps significant figures you enter, up to 4 decimal places. If you entered a Bore of 4.030 before, the program would shorten it to 4.03. Now it is stored as 4.030. Added ability to input multiple readings for Piston-to-valve clearance and valve lash. Program now underlines all user entries in the printed reports. ----- April 28, 2005, Version 1.1 A.009 ----------------------- InputRegName now eliminates starting and trailing spaces from Reg Name and eliminates "&" which can cause problems. Expanded the 'File Open' screen to better display long customer names Had to redo 'Preview' section in 'File Open' screen to match new inputs and input locations. Now program erases all entries in screens which are not part of the current engine. Now program marks all entries for specs which are not visible. Moved several subroutines from frmCR to FILELIBY so program could more easily save the current file's specs when opening a new file. Put Demo Tips banner on Basic Info tab. Reduced vertical spacing on printed report so all specs could fit on 1 page. ----- April 23, 2005, Version 1.1 A.008 ----------------------- Made many refinements per Pete Wheeler's requests.
